Clifton Park – On Sunday, March 28th, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
(POP) in Clifton Park, NY will present a unique and meaningful Palm
Sunday service that will include a Pepper Choplin cantata entitled
Once Upon a Tree. Once Upon a Tree is a musical piece featuring the
POP Senior Choir and narration to tell the story of Jesus’ Passion and
Crucifixion. The service will also include the traditional Procession
with Palms, a Children's Message and Holy Communion. Services will be
held at 8:15am and 10:45am at POP, 4 Northcrest Drive, Clifton Park.
The Senior Choir, led by Organist and Director Lori Orlowski, has
been rehearsing the cantata on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings
since January. Orlowski said that the “This cantata has required a
tremendous amount of dedication and extra practice by the members of
the choir. I am thrilled with how it is coming together. I know that
if you ask any member they will tell you that singing this piece has
been a moving experience for them. We hope that everyone who worships
with us on Palm Sunday will have the same meaningful experience that
we have had.” Senior Pastor Jeff Silvernail has worked closely with
Orlowski and Mike Getman, narrating the role of Luke, on the staging
and worship elements of the service. Pastor Silvernail said that “The
addition of the traditional Palm Sunday Procession with Palms and
weekly worship elements such as the Children’s Message and Holy
Communion will add to the meaningfulness of the worship by making the
cantata a participatory experience for all in the congregation.”
Pastor Silvernail continued, saying “All are welcome to join us at POP
on March 28th. We look forward to welcoming visitors on Palm Sunday
and throughout Holy Week and the rest of the year.”
